This technique is used in the flower pin kits featured in the January 2011 Phat Fiber Sampler Box. amyklimt.etsy.com www.amyklimt.com Transcript: first we've gonna get rid of these cats, here I'm going to be showing you how to make yarn from these silk hankies wihtout doing any spinning. You're gonna have a stack like this it sticks t your hands pretty bad so you might want to do a scrub or exfoliate a little bit. pause (silk hankies for spinning aren't a woven fabric for blowing your nose on. they are stacks of silk cocoons that can be separated and knit with or spun into yarn) if you look at the corner you can start to see the individual layer here that are individual silk cocoons stretched out over a square frame. we're going to be working with one thin layer at a time. it can be a little tricky to just grab one. for this project, we will need 8 lengths of yarn, so if you can look at your stack and see at least 8 distinct layers, that's about how thin they need to be. separate it out at the corner and grab the thinnest piece you can find here pull it off. it's gong to be sheer in the middle and uneven like this, but that is ok this is what one layer off the stack looks like. first we are going to pull this into a loop to make yarn out of it. stic your fingers through the middle all the way completely through and start pulling everything towards the edges to make a big loop. you ...
